Mafia II ready to hit retail August 24, 2010

Take-Two announced today that Mafia II is ready to offer North American retail an August 27, 2010, release date -- we doubt they'll refuse. We guess that leaves LA Noire or Max Payne 3 (we'll be shocked if it's Civilization V) as the game that could potentially be delayed by the publisher. (Umm, assuming this final date doesn't get gunned down at the last minute.)

The game will also be playable by the public for the first time at PAX East, which starts tomorrow in Boston.

Diablo III's female Witch Doctor conjured up

'X Scorch' for Xbox 360 gets in on the split controller craze

With PlayStation Move (and, let's not forget, the Splitfish lineup), the PS3 is taking part in the dual-controller wizardry that Wii owners have been enjoying for years -- a layout designed to allow free arm movement, but functionally allows us to play games without having to expend the effort to lift our arms from our sides to rest our hands in our laps. Now Xbox 360 owners will be able to get in on the slack-armed fun -- and utilize mouse control in their first-person shooters while they're at it -- with Bannco's "X Scorch" controller, an Xbox-based version of another two-handed PS3 setup, the "FragNStein."

Square Enix CEO: We're 'going to explore the possibility' of Final Fantasy VII remake

So far, Square Enix has said that a Final Fantasy VII remake would be "unrealistic," "tough to do in HD" and "not happening." But hold out hope, die-hards, because during an interview at FFXIII's launch party, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada finally admitted that the company is "going to explore the possibility" of revisiting the classic RPG. He didn't completely reverse the long-held position, as he says Square Enix has to decide "whether or not we're going to do it, if we're going to do it, and the platform," but he did finally admit that there have been a lot of fan requests to see the game in a new form, so he's giving it some solid thought.

Cheat Corner: Final Fantasy XIII Weapon Upgrade Exploit

So, I didn't really feel that an exploit was something that HAWTwired readers wanted on thier news feed, but Carlos talked me into it, so blame him if you want someone to blame.
In Chapter Seven, in the city of Palumpolom, at one point you reach Hope's house.  Shorltly after, the militray attacks, and you're engaged into some battles within the domicile.  The house is basically shaped like a loop, and inside are two enemy groups, two item chests, a Save Point, and an Activation Point.

Global Agenda sale on Steam

It's no secret that we're rather fond of Global Agenda. It has a certain je ne sais quoi, which is a French phrase meaning that it's an entertaining shooter in a massive online environment, with a strong dose of strategy on top of that. Oh, and no elves whatsoever. (Probably.)

Metro 2033 Review

If there's one thing Eastern European game developers are good at, it's recreating bleak, lonely landscapes filled with things that go bump in the night. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is proof positive of this trend. And it continues with Ukraine's 4A Games -- a team of ex-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. team members -- and their new title Metro 2033, published by THQ. In this post-apocalyptic shooter, players must wade through the ruins of Moscow and encounter dangerous while armed with minimal ammo. Paul Semel reviewed the game for us.
